Less is More

Happy middle of the month! The official start to Spring is coming up next week but it seems LA skipped Spring and just went straight to Summer. Yowza! Perfectly in line with spring cleaning, the renovations at Yoga Blend are complete. Thank you so much for your patience during the transition and for your encouraging words of love and support for our new look. It feels so good to have more light and space in the studio. It is amazing what accumulates over 12 years. Clearing the clutter was definitely a spiritual experience. Ha! I feel like we can all Read the full article…

Slow & Steady Wins the Race

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday and are ready to start creating an amazing 2017. As we begin the new year, it is a great time to start envisioning what we want our year to look like and setting out a plan for taking action. Often times, the tendency at the start of a new year is to run out of the gates full speed ahead determined to make that change we have been wanting. However, right now we are still in the cold and dark of winter, so it’s best to move slowly and steadily. Read the full article…

Deepen Your Yoga by Christy Marsden

Happy Mid October! I hope you are having a great month so far. For the past 11 1/2 years since opening Yoga Blend, I have written a bi-weekly newsletter about the benefits of a yoga practice. So, in case you are wondering, yoga is pretty special to me 🙂 Yoga has truly been one of the greatest gifts of my life. Besides my best friend of 38 years, yoga is the longest and healthiest relationship I’ve ever had. This practice started me on a journey of self-discovery over 20 years ago and continues to reveal so much to me about Read the full article…

Gratitude and Growth

Happy New Year! I hope you had wonderful holidays filled with lots of celebration, love, laughter and great food, no matter how you chose to celebrate! I am very excited about the new year and being back at the Blend more regularly when our teacher training begins at the end of the month! With the start of a new year, many of us may been thinking of what we want to create in the coming months. After years of setting goals and reaching them only to set more goals and stress out to reach them, I have decided to go Read the full article…

Detachment

I hope you are having a great month and enjoying the gifts that this time of year brings with it. Speaking of this time of year, if we are not careful, it is easy to get out of our regular routine and find ourselves feeling depleted. The sugar, alcohol, parties, late nights, obligations, colder weather and travel can easily lead us away from the holiday cheer and into the holiday blahs. As most of you know, a consistent yoga practice can award us with many benefits from a calmer mind to a more strong and flexible body. One of the Read the full article…

surrender to the now

Happy November! As the season changes, we are changing right along with it so our practices should change as well. It takes our attention, curiosity and a willingness to know what to change and how to go about it. The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, which is the foundational text for the philosophy of Yoga, is filled with reminders and practices for us to have a more balanced mind and therefore, a more balanced life. The practice of the 8 limbs is an integral part of Yogic Philosophy and is a way to develop the quality of discernment which is the Read the full article…

Pay Attention

Happy October! It’s good to be back in LA and seeing so many of you around the studio. A practice that I have been really been embracing, albeit with struggles, is that of paying attention. This quote is on my refrigerator in Nashville so I see it often: “What tools do we need to use? Only one. We’ve all heard of it, yet we use it so very seldom. It’s called attention.” -Charlotte Joko Beck Paying attention is really where the yoga begins and ultimately is what yoga is all about. We practice paying attention to the way our body Read the full article…

Now

September is Yoga Month…a great time to celebrate and re-commit to this practice we all love so much. Speaking of commitment :)…the very first of the Yoga Sutras is ‘atha yoganusasanam.’ Over the years, I have heard so many different translations of the sutras and the one I heard most for the first sutra was, ‘now begins the practice (or instruction) of Yoga.’ Later, as I really started to dive deep into this handbook for the teachings of the Philosophy of Yoga with a teacher who studied the sutras in India for well over a decade, I begin to have Read the full article…
