Take Steps Now to Avoid Future Discomfort

I hope you are having a great month so far. I am so happy to be back in Burbank and at the Blend! I was up super early yesterday for a full day of travel and was feeling grateful that I am able to be in Nashville with my family and still come to Burbank every few weeks to be with my Yoga Blend family. Although totally worth it, it can be really challenging to travel every few weeks. I will admit, it took me quite awhile to learn how to take care of myself in the process. Atha

I hope your month is off to a great start! As I was thinking about what to write this morning, the word commitment kept coming to mind. If we want something that we don’t have it usually doesn’t just magically appear in our life simply by wishing for it. When it does, be grateful and celebrate because it is a rare thing indeed. What is usually required is a commitment and the ability to follow through with concrete action. The very first word of the Yoga Sutras is Atha which translates as Now and implies a commitment. Now begins my Read the full article…

Creating Habits

Happy Month of May!! One year ago, I committed to writing 3 pages a day…every day. And I did it! Every single day without fail, I wrote 3 pages. The concept is from the Artist’s Way which I did over 20 years ago and was going to go through it again last year but life happened so I decided to just write….every day. It’s called morning pages in the book and it’s simply stream of consciousness writing with no agenda. It has been such an incredible experience to set the pen to paper every single day, no matter how I Read the full article…

Dualities by Christy Marsden

Happy November! I hope you had a great weekend filled with lots of treats and maybe some fun tricks as well! The nights are getting longer and even more so this coming weekend when the time changes. I have always been such a lover of the light. Bright, sunny days that seem to go on forever are when I feel the most alive, productive and happy. However, what I have learned (after many, many years) is that the dark is just as important as the light. As much as I try to keep the light going for as long as Read the full article…

Gratitude and Growth

Happy New Year! I hope you had wonderful holidays filled with lots of celebration, love, laughter and great food, no matter how you chose to celebrate! I am very excited about the new year and being back at the Blend more regularly when our teacher training begins at the end of the month! With the start of a new year, many of us may been thinking of what we want to create in the coming months. After years of setting goals and reaching them only to set more goals and stress out to reach them, I have decided to go Read the full article…

Detachment

I hope you are having a great month and enjoying the gifts that this time of year brings with it. Speaking of this time of year, if we are not careful, it is easy to get out of our regular routine and find ourselves feeling depleted. The sugar, alcohol, parties, late nights, obligations, colder weather and travel can easily lead us away from the holiday cheer and into the holiday blahs. As most of you know, a consistent yoga practice can award us with many benefits from a calmer mind to a more strong and flexible body. One of the Read the full article…

surrender to the now

Happy November! As the season changes, we are changing right along with it so our practices should change as well. It takes our attention, curiosity and a willingness to know what to change and how to go about it. The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, which is the foundational text for the philosophy of Yoga, is filled with reminders and practices for us to have a more balanced mind and therefore, a more balanced life. The practice of the 8 limbs is an integral part of Yogic Philosophy and is a way to develop the quality of discernment which is the Read the full article…

Freedom

Happy July! With the 4th of July coming up this weekend, I have been thinking a lot about Freedom and what it means to me. The 4th and final chapter of Yoga Sutras, the handbook for the Philosophy of Yoga, is about freedom (or kaivalya) which is said to be the ultimate result of a dedicated yoga practice. Freedom can be recognized and defined in so many ways and it is completely individual. For example, the more were practice deepening and lengthening our breath, the more freedom we have in our lungs to take even deeper and longer breaths. The Read the full article…
