Happy May! I just got back from Costa Rica and am feeling incredibly inspired by so many things, particularly the work that other people in the world are doing to make a difference by restoring and preserving our natural resources while at the same time creating a sustainable future through permaculture practices. It was such a profound experience and I left feeling a little overwhelmed and wondering where to start in my own life in order to make a difference.
A teacher I admire once said, “No one else is coming.” In other words, it is up to me, to you, to each of us to be the change we wish to see in this world as Ghandi so aptly put it. If we wait for someone else to do the work, we will most likely be waiting forever. We must take charge of our own future and that begins right now. It is so easy to lay out every excuse, reason and fear for why we cannot do something, start something, change something or create something. It takes courage to be the change. It takes courage to go beyond the norm and do something different. It takes courage to walk a new path. Courage does not mean that we do not have fear but rather that we have fear and we go ahead and do something anyway.
Being really passionate about sustainability practices and this amazing planet that has the ability to provide for all beings, I left Costa Rica full of inspiration, ideas and excitement. I also left feeling anxious and a little fearful about how much there is to do, how to do it and when. But rather than letting that anxiety and fear cripple me, I am using my yoga practice to giving me courage in order to move past the fear and to be the change that I want to see in the world, for me, for my family and for future generations.
Change does not happen overnight, but it will never happen if we don’t take the first step. So, I encourage you, if you are wanting to change something, take the first step. It is up to you and the time is now.
After this experience, I am even more excited to lead the workshops next weekend on Visualization, Chanting, Pranayama and Meditation. All of these go so well with the idea of being the change. We first need to see what it is we want, then we can use our voice to develop the concentration and confidence to move forward, incorporating pranayama to extend our life force, energy and vitality. Then finally, meditation to keep our focus, dedication and clarity along the way. These workshops are open to anyone and I look forward to sharing these practices that are very dear to my heart with you!
