I hope all is well in your world. The Summer Solstice is upon us this weekend. It is the time when we have the most hours of daylight so I intend to soak up as much light as I can this weekend.
I have started, written, re-started and re-written this newsletter several times. It’s not too often that I am at a loss for words. I finally just decided to write and not worry about it being a perfectly packaged message, because life is certainly not perfectly packaged.
I am sure I am not alone in feeling overwhelmed by the violence happening in the world. I am such a believer in the good but when violence and tragedy strikes again and again and again and again, it gets harder to hold the vision of the peaceful and cooperative world that I know in my heart is possible.
The only thing I can think to do is to practice being what I want to see in the world on a daily basis. We have to do the work to heal ourselves and do our part in helping others to heal as well, however that may look. Maybe it’s a kind word, a loving gesture, an act of service. Maybe it’s by teaching, feeding or healing. Or perhaps it is through writing, singing, or dancing. Whatever it is that feeds your soul…do it! And then help another.
By turning the attention into the deepest parts of our loving hearts and filling our own well, we generate the qualities within ourselves that we want to exist in the world and we build a reservoir so we may share with others. Then, we do whatever we can to help other people and we stand up for injustices in whatever way we can. This is the real practice. This is where the deepest, hardest and most rewarding work begins.
What I intended this newsletter to be about is the honoring of my dear friend and very valued employee, Marriah, who will be leaving Yoga Blend in a couple of weeks to move out of state. Please join me in wishing her the very best in the next exciting phase of her journey! Thank you Marriah for being such a dedicated and loyal friend and employee for all these years. Your commitment to me, the studio, the staff, the students and your practice is such an inspiration. I appreciate you and all you are more than words can say. I know that you will create something beautiful in your new home and community, as you always do wherever you find yourself. I love you dearly my friend. We will all miss you very much and look forward to hearing about your new adventures. And of course, we look forward to your future visits to the Blend.
And finally, I want to end by saying how much I appreciate all of you. I feel so fortunate to be a part of a community doing our very best to make a difference in our own lives by taking the time to turn our attention inside to remember the light of who we are so that we may share that light with the world because the world definitely needs our light…now more than ever.
With infinite love and gratitude…
