Happy April! I hope your month is off to a great start. With Spring off and running, it is a great time to start taking action towards the seeds we planted during the winter but it is equally important that we be patient with what we are personally growing and not expect it to move faster just because we want it to. We have to believe in what we have planted and give it time to grow.
We live in a world that craves instant gratification. It is easy to go full speed ahead and want things now because the earth is quickening, the days are getting longer and warmer and there is so much we want to see come to fruition. However, growth takes time.
Time is such a precious gift and it seems there is never enough of it. The culture in which we live seems to pride itself on being busy and not having time. We have so much technology that is supposed to make our lives easier but instead it tends to deplete us of one of our most valuable commodities… time. Unfortunately, the result of this can lead us to give up on things before there time is due.
To counter the frenetic pace of our ever-changing world, I practice yoga. When I practice, time seems to stand still. I am reminded to slow down and feel. By slowing down my breath, I create a sense of spaciousness not only in the moment but also in my entire day. I learn to be patient with where I am each day by giving myself the space to simply be with what is and remember that most anything worth having needs time to grow. Then I carry that out into my personal goals so that I can enjoy watching a seed sprout instead of wishing it would hurry up and become a flower.
