Detachment

Happy New Year!

I hope you had an amazing holiday doing things you love with people you love!

It has been an interesting couple of weeks for me. First, my computer hard drive crashed and I lost a lot of data. I am hoping some of my information can be recovered but only time will tell. Thank goodness for my phone…that is until it was stolen…the day before I had to travel. It was so interesting to feel anger move into panic into frustration and finally, into complete surrender. All within a matter of 10 minutes. I have the Yoga to thank for that pretty quick road to surrender.

One of the many things I love about Yoga is that it helps me handle all that comes my way with a little more ease. In the past couple of weeks, I have had the opportunity to experience that in a very practical, day to day sort of way.

As with anything, practice is key. In the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, there is a sutra that basically says ‘with practice, detachment happens” I used to think about detachment as this cold, unfeeling, above it all state. But that is not the case at all. What I have learned through the practice is that detachment is the ability to pull back far enough to not get trapped in a cycle of negative emotions. It’s okay to feel the feelings but to stay there and allow the feelings to demobilize us or create a negative now over and over again is where the suffering comes in.

So, I continue to practice and when I notice negative emotions arise, I just breathe and move my body and allow it to pass through me. Feeling bad about the situation only makes it worse. It is what it is. I can choose to let it consume me or I can choose to focus on all the amazing things in my life. So that is what I am choosing to do…and in doing so, I am filled with gratitude and joy.

If you are interested in receiving the benefits of a yoga practice in a deeper, more practical way, the Yoga Blend immersion coming up on Jan 20th might be just what you are looking for. It is a chance to cultivate a home practice, deepen your understanding of yoga, reduce stress, create more strength and flexibility, all while visualizing your ideal life so you can start living it! For more information on this (along with a scholarship opportunity), our annual teacher training certification and all the other great things we have coming up, please see here!

Thank you for being a part of the Yoga Blend Community. I am looking forward to creating an amazing 2018 with you all!

With infinite love and gratitude…
Namaste,
christy
